Apple Valley Council's Art Bishop Pledges to Keep Working for Residents

Apple Valley Town Council member and retired Fire Chief, Art Bishop, announced his bid for re-election to the Apple Valley Town Council. Bishop’s decision to run comes in the wake of the Council’s recent decision to fight for its residents’ rights to access clean and affordable water. “Whether as a Fire Chief or Councilmember in Apple Valley I have fought to enhance public safety, improve our schools, bring quality jobs to the region, and retain local control of our water,” said Bishop. “While we have achieved so much together over the past four years, there is so much more we can do to ensure that the residents of Apple Valley maintain a better way of life.” Bishop continued, “Next to public safety, ensuring that our residents have access to clean and affordable water is my top priority. The cost of water in Apple Valley is higher than any other community in the area – including Hesperia and Victorville. My time as President of the Mojave Water Agency gives me the unique experience needed to fix this problem and while the decision to purchase the Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company was a controversial one, it was the right one. It was a decision that I, as an elected leader, didn’t take lightly.” “At the end of the day the people of Apple Valley need sustainable water rates, safe streets, quality jobs, as well as an excellent education for their children. If re-elected I will continue to fight for these principles and continue to help improve the lives of the residents in Apple Valley.” After 32 years in the in fire service, Art retired in 2012 as Fire Chief of the Apple Valley Fire Protection District. During tenure in the fire service, he was appointed in 2004 as a Director to the Mojave Water Agency Board, where he eventually became President of the Board of Directors. After eight years, Art ran successfully for the Apple Valley Town Council, where he currently serves as a Councilmember. He and his wife, Kathy, reside in Apple Valley.
