Jettin' with Jazzie – Apr 2015

25 And Counting…

The Silver Lakes Entertainers celebrated their 25th Show with dancing, singing and some funny skits. The opening number “Puttin On The Ritz,” included most the cast dressed in black and white and looking fantastic. Bob Darden’s comedic timing is spot on and had the audience laughing with his classic jokes. Ken Best’s smooth sultry voice singing “Should Have Been A Cowboy,” had women ready to get up and two-step beside him. The most original skit/dance/spoof was “Swim Team,” with Tom Tschida, Bob Schneiders, Russ Richards, Lonnie Smith, Everett Lyster, Cec Richards and Jim Farris performing a parody of a professional dance swim beauties. All of their swan dives, kicking, waving and elegance was off the hook very funny. The bluesy rocker, Mike Keith, sang with great stage presence, “House Of The Rising Sun,” and interacting with the audience. The men really stole the show this year but I do have a few females to compliment. Bea Cureton looked like a southern belle as she sang her version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” The delectable diva, Joelle Olguin, bellowed a favorite, “Open Arms,” and Toni Hall you have the dumb blonde routine like no other.  Producer Liz Zellin and director Clyde Baker did a great job putting together their 25th Show!

Sam I Am…

On March 9th Dr.Suess came to visit Helendale Elementary School and brought along a lot of wonderful local volunteers. The helpers read his favorite stories such as ‘Green Eggs and Ham,” “Cat In The Hat, “ and a few I never knew “ The Sneetches,” and “Horton Hatches The Egg”.The kids also got to participate in arts & crafts and enjoy cookies and drinks as refreshments.

Friday Night Lights

A big focus for our whole community is to bring Friday Night Lights to Helendale this Fall school year. There is no shortage of everyone working together to make this dream become a reality. The booster club has been putting on several fundraisers with our local businesses in line to donate. There was a pancake breakfast hosted by Twisted Chicken and an all day event at Fratelli’s where they donated 20% back from every meal to the football fund. There was also a raffle for three bikes, and a silent auction where local and home businesses donated items and services. Krispy Kreme was a big success and there will be a 5k run and a duck race as well and a yard sale April 18. The goal was to raise $22,000 and this wonderful community passed the goal!!!

Murder Mystery

Who killed Barry Rottingrape? That was the question of the night at the crowded Silver Lakes Social-Lites monthly event. This was the first Murder Mystery Show that the group has done and all the actors were our very own Social-Lites. There were seven of us accusing and defending our characters of not being the killer of the wine mogul. At the end the Social-Lites got to choose whom they thought was the murderer and win a prize. Everyone seemed to have a great time at this Italian Murder Mystery event, as was something new and interactive, looking forward to do another one soon.
