Crafty In Silver Lakes

The annual Craft Fair took over the interior and exterior of the clubhouse once again this year. My five year old went with me and was amazed when I told him everything here was made by hand. There were so many wonderful items to purchase from jewelry, pillows, wood furnishings, embroidered items, plus many Holiday creations. It was a beautiful day and The Lions Club as always was serving their delicious pulled park sandwiches. The event finished with a raffle of several items donated by the various vendors. I did not win anything but fell in awe of this hand made bear with an outfit for every month.I went looking for the maker of this wonderful creation but came to find out that it is our local Arts & Craft group that makes these bears and donates to families in need. How wonderful is that. I was happy to see Margie selling her reindeer made of palm tree as I had bought one last year and the wind decided to take it a few months back. I let my little one pick out our wreath this year, did I mention that it was all black with a skull hanging in the middle…no, Frozen wreath for this mom of two boys.

Zombie Run

The A.C.E. Booster Club had their 2nd Annual Zombie Walk / Run 5K Event. The Cross Country Team became the bloodied flesh hungry zombies trying to chew off (grab) the flags from the willing victims. About twenty or so walkers/ runners started on the red line in the ditch to make their way through the zombie infested trail with a few water stations to quench their thirst before they lost their flags and became an undead.

Harvest Festival

Helendale Elementary had their annual “Harvest Festival,” for kids to dress up in their Halloween costumes with games, food and raffles. Mr. Carmichael’s class served hot coffee from Starbucks as other classes had cotton candy for sale as well. I volunteered selling tickets for food and games and can tell you that the line was constant all evening. The two biggest hits like every year were the Cake Walk and The Jail. There was a silent auction that every class participated in by having a theme to make a basket for their class. Parents donated wonderful items to make these baskets a huge success. Seeing the happy kids having fun in a safe environment makes all the hard work the teachers and volunteers put in worth every minute.

Social –Lites Halloween Style

The Terrace Room was filled with witches, skeletons, kitty cats and more as the Social Lites had their annual Halloween Game Night. Apple To Apples was played with prizes for each winner per table and of course best costume. I have to say one of my favorite goes to Janie Lewandowski as the imposter Foster Farm Chicken and Cheryl Scheme made the sexiest Bo Beep. I also have to give a shout out to the always upbeat Jan Settergren for her flowery attire.

Holiday Musical Review

High Desert Productions presented their annual Holiday Spectacular Musical Review at the Silver Lakes Clubhouse. Jamie Wiseman Graham is our local dance guru of all ages and puts on many shows through out the year. This holiday recital was the adult version with even a few teachers and high school kids performing. The performance had characters and songs from ‘Jack Skellington,’ to ‘Frosty The Snowman,’ to Willy Wonka and his Umpas. The first act moved swiftly with singing and dancing with colorful sets to make the ambience in a cozy Christmassy feel. The second act had everyone’s favorite holiday carols with a few parodies as well. Even though it does not feel like Christmas in this warm weather the show made me want to haul out my tree, set it by the fireplace, and drink hot chocolate while my boys decorate.

Bunco Babes Give Back

The Bunco Babes made their monthly game night about giving back to the community. Over a month ago, Silver Lakes had yet another tragedy this time involving a little girl in a boating accident. Instead of regular Bunco, we all donated $20 to go towards this little girl and we raised $320.00 that went to the family. Some members of this community took a greater step and created a FUND ME account and also set up a Delivery Meals for the father and son who is home while the mother sits by her daughter’s side at Loma Linda. Thankfully, this story has a happy ending as this little angel had her own guardian and is recovering from multiple surgeries and injuries. We all wait for her to come home.
