Every year the High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation (HDHCCF) partners with a local high school on a program that sends students to the California State Capitol. This year, Adelanto High School was chosen to participate in program. The 8th Annual Legislative Power Lunch will be held at the school on Friday, March 7 at 11 a.m.
Leading up to the luncheon, Adelanto High School instructors will work closely with the chamber foundation to educate and assist participating students complete a project. This year students will draft a “bill” that they would like to see become a law. The foundation board and the instructor then select 20 students with the top scores, who will attend the Legislative Power Lunch.
These students will have the opportunity to sit and talk with legislative leaders as they enjoy the luncheon. A panel of leaders will include Senator Steve Knight, San Bernardino First District Supervisor Robert Lovingood, Adelanto Mayor Cari Thomas, and San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos. Students will have the opportunity to ask them questions about legislative issues.
Towards the end of the luncheon, students whose projects received the top five scores will be announced. These students win a trip to Sacramento to tour the Capitol Building, learn about the legislative process and network with legislators.
The community is asked to support and attend this great event, which enhances efforts toward better education programs for local students. The High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation is a non profit organization looking empower the High Desert region through education, healthy living, and personal development that positively impact the community.
The HDHCCF also works in partnership with the High Desert Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to present the luncheon. The goal of this event is to raise funds to sponsor students for this trip, which allows them to learn more about the legislative process and network with legislators.
Several sponsorship levels are available: Capitol Level is $3,000, and includes a table of 8, with one legislator at the table, media publicity/promotion, and exhibit booth. Community Level is $2000, with seating for 6 and media publicity/promotion. Future Scholar Level – $750, seating for 4.
